It's Friday Again

This would have been one of my treatment Fridays in the schedule pattern. So this week was lacking that 'get-ready-for-chemo' angst. It's also missing my parents being here this morning and Kevin had to go to work today. It's raining here, cooling off from those hot days we've had lately. I'll take the rainy day over a sunny chemo day.

Unfortunately today isn't totally empty of doctors as I have to see Dr. Lee this afternoon to discuss the surgery plan as she sees it. I wonder if she will have reconsidered or is just on track with her initial plan. I'll let you know here soon.

I ought to have something scheduled with Dr. Heerdt early next week once she's back and had time to read the report and images from my MRI. The timing will likely be similar - end of August for the surgery. The recovery time from the lumpectomy and axillary node dissection that Dr. Heerdt suggested is better/shorter than that of the mastectomy and immediate reconstruction. There are more reasons to wish for the lump-procedure than I can count. Not the least of which being that the reconstruction options are really not up to par. With all that they can do cosmetically you'd think that this would be better. Our meeting with Dr. Delucia on Wednesday was another disappointing realization about what would be left after the mastectomy. I know I'll feel better going to Sloan-Kettering no matter what the final surgery ends up being.

I called Hartford Hospital yesterday to get something faxed to Dr. Heerdt's office and the person on the phone asked "Are you sending this to Sloan-Kettering or something?" I immediately bristled thinking that I could send my info anywhere I wanted. But I answered 'yes' and the voice on the other end told me that Sloan worked wonders for him 16 years ago. Another little nudge from the universe in the direction of NY.

I think that they'll give you the good news :) You've made good choices, taken great care of yourself, have a great attitude and lots of support. You are an ideal candidate.

But just to be sure, I'll do a little rain dance for you. Make the heavens help your doctor make the right decision. How can she resist?

Apparently the rain dance worked Sophie! Dr. Lee agreed that the lumpectomy was worth trying. Now Kev and I are deciding what our final answer is. Sloan? Hartford? Dr. Lee? Dr. Heerdt? We'll know next week.

you seem to have your bases covered what with a rain dance (thank you, sophie), global meditation(s), and going to yoga, jenn.

then there is your formidable gray matter commingled with your non-compliant reception to the squatter.

hooray for you! and selfishly, a HUGE yippee-skippy for all of us!

have a sensational weekend,
