Apparently I Did it "Right"

Every day the techs who set me up for treatment ask me about my skin. It's been OK; uncomfortable and itchy but no blisters and minor peeling. So today I answered, 'it's alright', and they were quick to tell me that it looked really good for this point in the treatments. My skin is holding up well.

I had a lot of fear about that from the discussions we had with the plastic surgeon months ago. When we talked about reconstruction one of the factors was the effect of radiation on the skin. Tightening, thinning the skin and making the implant a more difficult procedure. I am relieved that my skin is doing so well though it is red and warm. Looking back I think I got a lot of worst case scenario information from the doctors. I guess trying to keep my expectations under control? It's fine because it was among the factors that really pushed me to seek out a second opinion regarding the whole surgery portion of my treatment.

One of the nurses asked me today if it felt like the radiation treatments went by quickly. They definitely did. And I do not think that I have any fatigue that I can attribute to the treatments. but I was not among the patients adding this to their work day - more hours out of the house and driving greater distances each day. I had to add this in to my day, but it really wasn't that big a deal. It'll be even less of a big deal after next week when I can come home from the bus stop and have a nice cup of coffee at home. No driving to UCONN, no scraping the windshield, no racing out the door and special parking permits. Just a morning.
