Now Read This. An article re: gray haired ladies.
Since my gray streak came in at about 16, going gray never equated with my aging until after I became a Mommy. I guess the streak spread out and became a peppering of white in my dark brown hair. By then, gray hair shifted from being a unique trait to proof that I'd aged well beyond 21. I never got carded for alcohol again. It was the end of an era.
There have been times when I have gotten absolutely fabulous compliments on my hair. I'd been asked if I had it done like that professionally, told never to color it, given credit for another woman letting her natural color come in. It all made me feel good. Occasionally I'd consider buying a box and dyeing my grays away. I can never decide which fake color I should try so my indecision makes the decision not to mess with it. Conversely, one hair-dresser told my I needed "low lites not high-lites" to not look old beyond my years. Really she did. Small tip that day and no need to return.
Now I have it in writing that we gray haired girls are "in demand". I'll make sure to remind Kevin who obviously caught on to that years ago. We both had premature grays and when Jacqueline was born and the nurse said that the baby had a lot of hair, together we replied;
"is it gray?"
