We Relayed

Despite the very wet weather here in Simsbury, we were there along with many others to participate. The RELAY here raised $83k; my team raised over $4k.

This event was great and we spent a few minutes talking about how great it would be next time when it hopefully isn't raining. I had great people involved with my team. People who never met me and my family mixed together in this team. We walked though it was too wet for me to stay overnight as I had planned. I made it until about 10pm (having arrived at 3:30, Jacq and I had been out in the weather for more than our share). My teammates came overnight in the rain and in the early morning Saturday, when the sun shone bright and the sky was clear.

There were many great parts that I'll try to give more attention to here but the short list is:
  • fabulous snacks from the team; the best CHEX mix ever, chocolate crumb cake, EDIBLE arrangements fruit, oatmeal cookies, brownies…
  • tents, canopies and chairs for our comfort
  • I led the survivor lap with John (an 8 yr survivor) and many others
  • Everyone brought a cheerful spirit and genuine support and love
  • we signed the Fight Back Express Bus
Our team won the "Rookie Team Award". I saw many luminaria in my honor as well as the ones I purchased in honor, appreciation and in memory of people in my life. There's so much to write about and I don't have a lot of time right now, but I will. I'll try to get some photos up and share the experience with you all.

It was amazing and I am so happy to have been a part of it. I needed to do something to fight back. I needed to feel like I was being proactive about fighting cancer.
