I don't know why I am even a little bit surprised but I am. After thinking about how to continue the fight against cancer, I decided to form a team and raise money for the American Cancer Society through the Relay for Life. In Simsbury, the event is on May 16th. It's an overnight walk relay. So someone on my team is supposed to be walking all through the night. I thought I'd give it a try and I thought that maybe if a few people from my list of friends and family chipped in a few bucks, I'd raise enough to be part of the event. In the first few hours, I had surpassed the goal of $100 for me personally (the minimum suggested) and now my team's total over $500. I am blown away.
Ultimately I hope that we have 10 team members, and I know that I have a few more considering joining us. When I was at the kick-off meeting I was hit with a wave of emotion. I tried to force it back. It was a little bit of fear and anger, sadness and determination. Now I have a feeling back of having all of my biggest supporters with me, helping me and joining forces against the disease that rocked my world last year. It'll be just after the 1 year anniversary of my diagnosis and my beginning chemo that I do the Relay. It's really important to me to keep doing something.
What a difference, but how similar. I felt like a warrior the day I went for my first chemo treatment and I feel that strength again. I'm really looking forward to the walk. I'm looking forward to the survivors lap, the luminaries, the community. I can't wait to have photos of my team. I'm envisioning our victorious faces beaming smiles of pride and love.
Thank you isn't enough - but it's a start. I hope that I make you proud.

sweet, tender, brave jenn --
wow! you take my breath away. i have been proud of you since i met you and this last year, your plucky courage caused me to burst my buttons.
please know that i shall do my utmost best to one of your team members.
you remind me of a quote from one a much beloved word smith:
“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation." Oscar Wilde
you, jennifer diana motschenbacher webb, are someone who undeniably lives your own passion and mimics no one.
thank you for leading by example!
love,
cherie
